The Tata Consultancy Services National Qualifier Test (TCS NQT) is an integrated, multi-level assessment conducted in-person at TCS iON Centers. 1. TCS Ninja (Approx. 3.4 LPA)

All about TCS NQT: Eligibility Criteria

TCS is notoriously strict with its eligibility verification. If you are found ineligible at any stage (even after clearing the test), your candidature will be disqualified immediately. Here are the standard eligibility rules for their fresher hiring drives (applicable for recent batches like 2024, 2025, and 2026):

• Allowed Degrees: B.Tech / B.E / M.Tech / M.E / M.C.A / M.Sc / M.S in any specialization offered by AICTE/UGC recognized universities. (Note: Only full-time courses are considered. Part-time/correspondence is not allowed, though NIOS open schooling is accepted for 10th/12th).
• Age Limit: Candidates should be between 18 to 28 years of age.
• Work Experience: Freshers, as well as candidates with up to 2 years of work experience, are eligible to apply.

• Backlogs/Arrears: No pending backlog will be permitted at the time of appearing for the TCS selection process. You must clear all exams in the first attempt.
• Extended Education: No extended education is allowed. You must complete your academic course within the stipulated duration.
• Education Gap: The overall academic gap should not exceed 24 months (2 years) until your highest qualification. It is mandatory to declare any gaps, and relevant documents will be checked.

First-Class requirement: TCS’s official NQT page states that an offer is valid only if your degree or provisional degree certificate clearly shows that you cleared Engineering in “First-Class”, within the stipulated course duration. Check your university’s certificate format before you apply.

Batch note: the official All India NQT page lists the 2024, 2025 and 2026 batches. If you belong to the 2027 batch, check NextStep and your college placement cell for the NQT schedule meant for your batch, because it can run separately from this drive.

TCS NQT Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The TCS NQT is a rigorous 190-minute integrated test consisting of two sections. The test is strictly conducted in-person at designated TCS iON Centers.

Part A — Foundation Section (75 Minutes)

This section tests your basic cognitive abilities and is critical for qualifying for the baseline Ninja interview.

• Numerical Ability (25 Mins): Focus on Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Speed & Distance, and Geometry.

• Advanced Quantitative & Reasoning Ability (25 Mins): Complex math problems and high-level logical deductions requiring multi-step calculations.
• Advanced Coding (90 Mins): The coding section runs for 90 minutes and tests logical building, algorithmic knowledge and data structure usage. The number of problems and the supported programming languages are shown on the test interface for your drive (options typically include C, C++, Java and Python), so check the instructions shown for your drive.

TCS NQT Sample Questions with Answers

These are original practice questions written by us to show the kind of thinking each section needs. They are not actual TCS questions, and the difficulty is only indicative.

Q1 (Numerical Ability, Profit and Loss): An item is marked up 25% above its cost price and then sold after a 10% discount. What is the profit percentage?
Answer: 12.5%. After the markup the price is 1.25 × CP; after a 10% discount it is 1.25 × 0.9 = 1.125 × CP, which is a 12.5% profit.

Q2 (Numerical Ability, Time and Work): A can finish a job in 12 days and B in 18 days. How long will they take working together?
Answer: 7.2 days. Their combined rate is 1/12 + 1/18 = 5/36 of the job per day, so the time is 36/5 = 7.2 days.

Q3 (Numerical Ability, Speed and Distance): A 120 m long train crosses a pole in 8 seconds. How long will it take to cross a 180 m long platform?
Answer: 20 seconds. Speed = 120/8 = 15 m/s. Distance to cover = 120 + 180 = 300 m. Time = 300/15 = 20 s.

Q4 (Reasoning Ability, Blood Relations): Pointing to a man, Riya says, “He is the son of my mother’s only brother.” How is the man related to Riya?
Answer: Cousin (her maternal cousin). Her mother’s only brother is her maternal uncle, and the uncle’s son is her cousin.

Q5 (Reasoning Ability, Number Series): Find the next number: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ?
Answer: 42. The differences are 4, 6, 8, 10, so the next difference is 12 and 30 + 12 = 42.

Q6 (Verbal Ability, Sentence Correction): Which sentence is correct? (a) Each of the students have completed the assignment. (b) Each of the students has completed the assignment.
Answer: (b). “Each” is singular, so it takes the singular verb “has”.

Q7 (Coding): Given an array of integers, print the second largest distinct value, or -1 if it does not exist. Example: [12, 35, 1, 10, 34, 1] gives 34.
Approach: keep the largest and second largest distinct values while scanning the array once. This runs in O(n) time and O(1) space. Arrays with one element, or with all equal elements, must return -1.

How to Register for TCS NQT (Application Process)

Whenever TCS announces an off-campus hiring drive, registration is handled exclusively through their official NextStep portal. Here are the exact steps you need to follow:

1. Log in or Register on the official TCS NextStep Portal.
2. Register and Apply for the Drive:
   • Existing Users: If you already have an ‘IT’ profile, log in with your TCS Reference ID (CT/DT number). You must click on ‘Apply For Drive’ to complete your registration.
   • New Users: Click ‘Register Now’, select the “IT” category, and fill in your details. You must click on ‘Apply For Drive’.
3. Select the specific skill on which you wish to be evaluated.
4. Select the In-centre mode of test, choose your 3 preferred test centers, and click ‘Apply’.
5. Select your 3 preferred job cities.
6. To confirm your registration was successful, click “Track Your Application”. The status MUST reflect as “Applied for Drive”. Without this status, you will not receive a hall ticket.

TCS NQT Selection Process: Step by Step

1. Register and apply for the drive on TCS NextStep (IT category) and confirm that your status shows “Applied for Drive”.
