Most job applications ask for your marks as a percentage, but many universities give a CGPA. If you convert it with the wrong formula, your form can be rejected at online screening or at document verification. This applies to IT company drives such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and Cognizant, and to any government recruitment that sets a minimum percentage.

There is no single national formula. Each university sets its own rule: some use CGPA × 10, some use (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, and others use (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. Use the calculator below with the formula that matches your university and your admission scheme, and always cross-check it with the formula printed on your marksheet.

Detailed University-Wise Formulas

Your final percentage should match what your university would print on a conversion certificate. These notes show how each formula works.

1. Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)

VTU uses different conversions for different schemes, so check which scheme your batch belongs to. VTU’s official CGPA formula page gives (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 for the 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes only. The VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 (clause 22OB 6.7) give Percentage = CGPA × 10 for the 2022 scheme.

• 2015 / 2017 / 2018 schemes: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Example: CGPA 8.2 gives (8.2 − 0.75) × 10 = 74.5%.
• 2022 scheme: Percentage = CGPA × 10. Example: CGPA 8.2 gives 82.0%.
• 2021 scheme: we could not confirm the rule on an official page, so use the formula printed on your marksheet or ask the university.

2. Anna University (Chennai)

Anna University results are commonly converted as Percentage = CGPA × 10. Example: CGPA 7.8 gives 78%. Confirm this on your grade sheet or with the Controller of Examinations before using it in an application.

3. AKTU / UPTU

AKTU is widely reported to use Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, which is the same as (CGPA × 10) − 7.5. Example: CGPA 6.9 gives (6.9 − 0.75) × 10 = 61.5%. Confirm with your AKTU marksheet.

4. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH)

The JNTUH R25 B.Tech Academic Regulations (clause 19) state Percentage = (Final CGPA − 0.5) × 10. Example: CGPA 7.0 gives 65%. Other JNTU campuses and older regulations may differ, so check yours.

5. Mumbai University (MU)

Mumbai University has used different conversion formulas for different faculties, grading schemes and years, and the sources we found disagree on the exact coefficients. Because a wrong formula can cost you an application, we have not included a Mumbai University formula in the calculator. Use the formula or the percentage printed on your marksheet, or get a conversion certificate from the university.

6. Gujarat Technological University (GTU)

GTU is widely reported to use Percentage = (CPI/CGPA − 0.5) × 10. Example: CGPA 8.5 gives (8.5 − 0.5) × 10 = 80%. Confirm with your GTU marksheet.

7. CBSE and Delhi University

For CBSE (Class 10/12 CGPA) and Delhi University, Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 is the commonly used conversion. Example: CGPA 8.4 gives 79.8%.

How to Fill CGPA and Percentage in IT Company Forms

• TCS NextStep (TCS NQT): TCS asks for 60% or 6 CGPA in Class 10, Class 12 and your degree, and no active backlogs. Read the TCS NQT syllabus and eligibility guide for the full criteria before you register.
• Infosys and Accenture: Both typically ask for 60% or 6.5 CGPA throughout your academics, with no active backlogs. Criteria change between drives, so confirm on the current notification.
• Use your aggregate: Enter the aggregate across all semesters, not only the final year.
• Do not round up: If your result is 59.9%, enter 59.9%. Rounding it to 60% can lead to disqualification when the cut-off is 60%.
• Keep documents ready: Keep your marksheets and, if your university issues one, the CGPA conversion certificate ready for the document verification round.

Rules for Government Job Applications

Where a government post sets a minimum percentage, these points usually apply:

• Conversion certificate: If your university uses a non-standard formula, such as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, get an official conversion certificate from the Registrar or Controller of Examinations.
• No self-rounding: Forms usually treat 59.99% as below 60%. Do not round up.
• Document verification: Officers may check your percentage against the formula printed on your marksheet or the certificate you submit.
• Check each post: Minimum marks differ by post, category and recruiter. Read the official notification, such as the current UPSC recruitment notifications, for the qualifying marks each post requires.

1. What if my university has no official CGPA to percentage formula?

Ask your university for a written conversion certificate from the Controller of Examinations or Registrar. Without one, many applicants use CGPA × 10, but this is not accepted everywhere, so follow the instructions on the application form.

2. What if my percentage is 59.8% and the cut-off is 60%?

You do not meet the cut-off. Recruiters do not allow rounding up, and entering 60% when your actual figure is 59.8% can be treated as misrepresentation during verification.

3. How do I calculate the aggregate percentage for B.Tech (8 semesters)?

Add the marks you obtained in all 8 semesters, divide by the total maximum marks of all 8 semesters, and multiply by 100. That is: Aggregate % = (Total marks obtained ÷ Total maximum marks) × 100.

4. Where do I find my university’s official conversion formula?

It is usually printed on the back of your consolidated grade card or marksheet, or in the “Regulations” or “Grading rules” section of your university’s academic portal.

5. Why does this calculator differ from other calculators?
