IFFCO has opened applications for Agriculture Graduate Trainee (AGT) posts at its field offices across India, and for a B.Sc. (Agriculture) graduate this is one of the more straightforward openings of the year: a one-year paid training programme at ₹33,300 a month, with absorption after training at a basic pay of ₹37,000 in a ₹37,000–70,000 pay scale. There is no batch-year restriction and the age limit runs up to 30 years, which makes it unusually open: a 2026 graduate and someone who finished in 2019 are both eligible on paper. The last date is 14 October 2026.
One correction before anything else, because almost every aggregator gets this wrong: this is not a government job. IFFCO describes itself on its own careers site as the world’s largest fertiliser cooperative, wholly owned by Indian cooperatives. It is a multi-state cooperative society, not a central public sector undertaking. The pay scale is structured like a PSU’s and the recruitment process looks like one, but you will not be a central government employee, and the service conditions that come with a sarkari post do not automatically apply here.
If that distinction matters to you, our comparison of a government job versus a private job in India is worth reading first, and you can browse everything currently open in our Government & PSU Jobs for Freshers section.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
You need a four-year full-time regular B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree from a university or institute recognised by the UGC or AICTE. Read that line slowly, because three words in it do real work. Four-year rules out shorter agriculture diplomas. Full-time regular rules out distance-mode and correspondence degrees, which is a common disqualification candidates discover only at document verification. And recognised by UGC/AICTE matters if your college is a private or deemed institution. Check its recognition status before you spend time on the form rather than after.
Minimum Marks
| Category | Minimum Aggregate in B.Sc. (Agriculture) |
|---|---|
| General / OBC | 60% |
| SC / ST | 55% |
The advertisement adds a specific instruction that trips up a lot of applicants: if your result is in CGPA, you must convert it to a percentage while filling the application form. IFFCO does not publish a conversion formula in the advertisement, so use your own university’s official conversion rule, printed on your marksheet or in your academic regulations, and keep that document handy, because a mismatch between what you typed and what your marksheet supports is the kind of thing that gets an application rejected at verification. Our guide on converting CGPA to percentage for government and IT jobs explains why the multiplier differs between universities and why you should never borrow a formula from a different institution.
Age Limit
| Category | Relaxation | Upper Age Limit (as on 1 September 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| General / UR | — | 30 years |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years | 33 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 35 years |
Note the cut-off date: 1 September 2026, not the application deadline. The OBC relaxation applies only to candidates not belonging to the creamy layer, and you will need a valid non-creamy-layer certificate to claim it. No other relaxation category, such as PwBD or ex-servicemen, is mentioned in this advertisement.
Not sure whether you fall inside the bracket? Our Government Exam Age Calculator works out your exact age against this kind of cut-off, including standard category-wise relaxations, in a few seconds.
Knowledge of Language — The Filter Most Candidates Underestimate
IFFCO requires that you are well versed in reading, writing and speaking the regional language of the State you apply for. Knowing more than one is listed as an added advantage, and knowledge of Hindi is described as desirable.
Treat this as a genuine requirement rather than a formality, because of what an AGT actually does. This is a field role at a fertiliser cooperative: the work takes you to farmers, dealers and village-level cooperative societies, and none of that happens in English. Reading and writing the language matters too, not just speaking it, since field reporting and farmer-facing material are in the regional language. The practical consequence: apply for a State whose language you genuinely have, not the State that sounds most convenient. Claiming fluency you cannot demonstrate in a personal interview is a poor trade.
Who Should Apply?
- B.Sc. (Agriculture) graduates with 60% or more, 55% for SC/ST, from a four-year full-time regular programme
- Candidates genuinely willing to work in the field rather than from an office, since every AGT posting is at a field office
- Anyone who can read, write and speak the regional language of the State they are applying for, properly rather than passably
- Graduates from earlier batches who have been shut out of campus-style drives. There is no batch restriction here, and the age window runs to 30 with relaxations beyond
- Candidates comfortable with an all-India transfer liability, since on absorption you can be posted to any IFFCO State, project or establishment in the country
- Anyone who wants a structured one-year paid training route into the agri-input sector with a defined pay scale at the end of it, rather than an open-ended private sales job
Who Is This Role Not For?
- Anyone applying under the impression this is a central government post. It is a cooperative society job, and the difference is real. If a government post is specifically what you want, our guide on how to get a high-paying job in a PSU sets out the genuinely government-owned routes
- Candidates with distance-mode, correspondence or three-year agriculture qualifications: the advertisement is explicit about four-year full-time regular
- Anyone who cannot sit a timed online test on their own laptop with stable internet, since the first stage is conducted that way with no centre provided
- Candidates who need to stay in one city. All-India posting on absorption is written into the advertisement, not negotiated afterwards
- Anyone treating the training year as a guaranteed job. The wording is that AGTs “may be absorbed” subject to IFFCO’s requirement. See the section below
- Graduates who want a laboratory, research or purely technical agriculture role. This is a field-facing position
Stipend, Pay Scale and the Absorption Catch
IFFCO is unusually transparent about money here, which is welcome: most trainee advertisements leave it blank. Two figures are published:
- During training (one year): ₹33,300 per month, described as the present rate as per the rules of the organisation
- On absorption: basic pay of ₹37,000 per month in the regular pay scale of ₹37,000–70,000, plus allowances and benefits as per organisation rules
For a fresher, a ₹33,300 monthly stipend during a training year is a strong number: well above the ₹12,300 statutory floor that governs formal apprenticeships, and above what most private agri-input companies pay a management trainee in year one. The ₹37,000–70,000 scale on absorption is a PSU-shaped pay band, and the useful thing about a published scale is that it tells you the ceiling of the grade, not just the entry point.
Since allowances are not itemised, the gross will be meaningfully higher than ₹37,000, but what reaches your account after PF and tax is a different number again. Our Freshers In-Hand Salary Calculator will give you a realistic monthly take-home estimate once you know the gross, which is worth doing before you compare this against a private offer on CTC alone.
Now the catch, stated plainly. The advertisement says that on successful completion of training, “and subject to requirement of IFFCO, the AGTs may be absorbed.” That is conditional language and it should be read as conditional: absorption depends on IFFCO’s manpower requirement at the time, not purely on your performance. Go in valuing the paid training year and the sector experience on its own terms, with absorption as a strong possibility rather than a promise. If you are weighing this kind of cooperative or PSU-shaped career against a private-sector offer, our breakdown of a PSU versus private sector career for freshers compares the two on pay progression, job security and transfer liability rather than on starting salary alone.
Selection Process
The process described in the advertisement runs in two online stages, and the design is genuinely unusual:
- Preliminary Computer Based Online Test: open environment. You sit this yourself, using your own computer or laptop and your own internet connection. No examination centre is allotted for this stage.
- Final Online Test: controlled environment. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of the preliminary test are called to designated centres for a supervised online test.
- Personal Interview. See the note below: the advertisement references this stage but does not list it under the selection procedure.
- Medical examination as per IFFCO’s medical standards, for candidates shortlisted after the personal interview, before final selection.
An inconsistency worth knowing about: the advertisement’s Selection Procedure section lists only the preliminary and final online tests. But its Medical Examination section says candidates will be examined “after Personal Interview”, which means an interview stage exists even though it is never listed as one. The honest reading is that you should prepare for four stages, not two. IFFCO also explicitly reserves the right to change the selection procedure depending on how many applications it receives, so watch your registered email and the portal for the actual stage-wise schedule.
No syllabus, test duration, marks, sectional structure or negative-marking rule is published for either test. Based on what the role demands, expect the preliminary test to cover agriculture-domain knowledge alongside the usual quantitative, reasoning and English sections that this kind of graduate-trainee screening uses, but treat that as a reasoned expectation, not an official pattern, and prepare from your B.Sc. syllabus as the core.
One strategic point about the open-environment first stage. Because there is no travel, no centre allotment and no cost of showing up, the barrier to attempting this test is close to zero, which usually means a very large applicant pool. Expect the preliminary test to be a hard filter rather than a formality, and do not read “open environment” as “easy”. What it does give you is a genuine advantage if your internet and hardware are reliable: test your laptop, browser and connection well before the date, because there is no invigilator and no backup centre to rescue a failed setup.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted online only. The advertisement states that applications sent through any other mode will not be entertained.
- Open IFFCO’s recruitment portal at the Agriculture Graduate Trainee (AGT) 2026 listing
- Click Apply Now: the portal will ask you to sign in or create an account first, so register with a working email ID and mobile number you will keep access to
- Verify your email, then sign in and open the AGT application form
- Fill in your personal, category and contact details, and select the State you are applying for: choose this based on the regional language you actually command
- Enter your B.Sc. (Agriculture) details with your aggregate marks. If your result is in CGPA, convert it to a percentage here and keep your university’s conversion rule as backup
- Upload the documents the form asks for. Online recruitment forms in India almost always require a photograph and signature within fixed dimensions and file-size limits, and a rejected upload is one of the most common reasons an application stalls. Our photo and signature resizer will get both files to the required size in one step
- Review every field against your marksheet and certificates before submitting, since corrections after submission are usually not permitted
- Submit before 14 October 2026 and save the acknowledgement or application number
Documents to Keep Ready
The advertisement does not publish a document checklist, so this is a reasoned list based on what the stated eligibility conditions require you to prove: confirm against the form itself:
- B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree certificate and all-semester marksheets
- Class 10 certificate as date-of-birth proof
- Caste certificate (SC/ST) or OBC non-creamy-layer certificate, if claiming relaxation or the reduced marks criterion
- Recent passport-size photograph and signature in the specified format
- Aadhaar or other government photo ID
- Your university’s CGPA-to-percentage conversion rule, if applicable

About IFFCO
Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) was set up in 1967 and is headquartered at IFFCO Sadan, Saket Place, New Delhi. It is the world’s largest fertiliser cooperative, owned by Indian cooperative societies rather than by the government or private shareholders: a structure that makes it unusual among large Indian employers. IFFCO manufactures and markets urea, DAP, NPK and other plant nutrients through a cooperative distribution network that reaches farmers across the country, which is the network an Agriculture Graduate Trainee is being recruited to work in.
A standing caution for any recruitment of this size: IFFCO’s advertisement names a single online application route and no fee. Treat any demand for payment in exchange for an application, a test slot, coaching or a selection guarantee as a scam, and verify every communication against the official portal rather than acting on a WhatsApp forward or an unofficial Telegram channel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is IFFCO AGT a government job?
No. IFFCO is a multi-state cooperative society, wholly owned by Indian cooperatives, not a central public sector undertaking or a government department. The pay scale is structured like a PSU’s and the recruitment process resembles one, but a selected candidate is not a central government employee.
Q. Can B.Sc. (Agriculture) graduates from earlier batches apply?
Yes. The advertisement sets no pass-out batch restriction. The binding limits are the qualification, the minimum marks and the age cut-off of 30 years as on 1 September 2026, relaxable by 3 years for OBC non-creamy-layer and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Q. Is a three-year B.Sc. or a distance-mode agriculture degree acceptable?
No. The requirement is a four-year full-time regular B.Sc. (Agriculture) from a UGC/AICTE-recognised university or institute. Correspondence, distance-mode and shorter programmes do not meet it.
Q. What if my result is in CGPA rather than percentage?
You must convert it to a percentage yourself while filling the application form. Use your own university’s official conversion rule and keep the supporting document, since the figure you enter has to be defensible against your marksheet at verification.
Q. Where is the preliminary test held?
Nowhere. You sit it yourself in an open environment on your own computer or laptop with your own internet connection. Only the final online test is conducted in a controlled environment at designated centres.
Q. How many vacancies are there, and is there an application fee?
Neither is stated in the advertisement. No vacancy count is published and no fee is mentioned. If the online form asks for a payment, confirm it against the official portal before paying anything.
Q. Will I get a permanent job after the one-year training?
Not guaranteed. The advertisement says that on successful completion of training, and subject to IFFCO’s requirement, AGTs “may be absorbed” at ₹37,000 basic pay. Absorption depends on the organisation’s manpower needs at that time, so treat it as a strong possibility rather than a certainty.
Q. Do I have to know a regional language?
Yes, and it is a real requirement. You must be well versed in reading, writing and speaking the regional language of the State you apply for. Knowing more than one is an added advantage and Hindi is described as desirable. Choose your State accordingly.
