Application Status: Open — Closing Very Soon

  • Internship Period: 12 weeks, starting summer 2027 (May/June onward)

This is one of the tightest application windows covered on this site — apply as soon as possible if you meet the eligibility criteria.

About the Role

Google’s Hardware Operations team deploys and maintains the physical server and network infrastructure behind Google’s services. This is described as an introduction to the wider engineering world at Google, and this is the company’s first Data Center Intern program in India, open to university, polytechnic, and higher education students.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to repairs, upgrades, decommissioning, deployments, and cabling work.
  • Identifying trends in machine failure, reporting bugs, and working with remote teams to resolve them.
  • Communicating effectively with English-speaking clients and partners.
  • Contributing to deployment, maintenance, and support projects for current and new data center infrastructure.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Linux OS-related issues on servers, including resolving critical or escalated technical challenges across a significant population of affected equipment.
  • Physical work requirements: ability to lift/move up to 50 lb (23 kg) of equipment, and to exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or higher education program in Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • Experience installing a network or Linux systems.
  • Authorization to work in India, and readiness to relocate to Mumbai or Delhi for the 12-week internship.
  • An anticipated graduation date in 2028.
  • Full-time availability for the entire 12-week internship starting summer 2027.
  • Must reside in India for the full duration of the internship.
  • English proficiency, required for collaboration and communication with global teams, clients, and partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical understanding of Linux and networking — installation, systems administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience with hardware architecture, maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of networking, including topology and protocol concepts.
  • Ability to learn new technical skills and domains quickly.
  • Ability to work as a team member and collaborate to resolve challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Who Should Apply?

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s students (2028 anticipated graduation) from IT, Information Systems, Computer/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Candidates comfortable with hands-on physical hardware work, not just software/screen-based tasks — the lifting and physical exertion requirements are explicitly stated, not incidental.
  • Those with genuine interest in Linux systems administration, networking, and physical infrastructure, as opposed to pure software development.
  • Candidates able to relocate to and reside in Delhi or Mumbai for the full 12 weeks.

Who Is This Role Not For?

  • Students anticipating graduation in 2027 or earlier — despite the program’s “2027” name, eligibility is tied to a 2028 anticipated graduation date.
  • Candidates unable to relocate to Delhi or Mumbai, or unable to remain in India for the internship’s full duration.
  • Those uncomfortable with physical labor — lifting up to 23 kg and extended physical activity (bending, kneeling, climbing) are explicit job requirements.
  • Candidates looking for a software-development-focused internship — this role is hardware/infrastructure operations, not coding-centric work.

Stipend and Support

Google has not disclosed a specific stipend figure in the official posting. Based on how Google’s technical internship programs are generally structured, candidates can typically expect a paid stipend along with relocation support for the host city and direct mentorship from Hardware Operations Engineers — but candidates should confirm the exact stipend amount and relocation terms directly with Google during the hiring process rather than assuming a figure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. I’m graduating in 2027 — can I apply for this “2027” internship?
No. Despite the “2027” in the program name, eligibility requires an anticipated graduation date in 2028. The “2027” refers to when the 12-week internship itself takes place (summer 2027), not your graduating year.

Q2. What is the last date to apply?
2 September 2026 — a short window, so apply promptly if you’re eligible.

Q3. Can I choose whether I’m placed in Delhi or Mumbai?
You’ll have the opportunity to share your preferred working location between the two during the application process, though final placement is determined by Google.

Q4. Is this a software development internship?
No. This is a hardware/data center operations role — Linux systems, networking, physical infrastructure deployment and maintenance — not a coding-focused software internship.

Q5. Are there physical requirements for this role?
Yes. The posting explicitly states candidates must be able to lift/move up to 50 lb (23 kg) of equipment and perform physical activities like bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling over extended periods.

Q6. Do I need a Computer Science degree specifically?
No. The posting accepts Information Systems, IT, Information Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical fields — it’s broader than a CS-only requirement.
