Out of the 80 vacancies, 3 posts are reserved for candidates belonging to the Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) category — one each under Blindness & Low Vision, Deaf & Hard of Hearing, and Locomotor Disability. PwBD candidates suffering from 40% or more of a relevant disability are also eligible to apply for posts that are identified as suitable for their category, even where a post isn’t formally reserved for PwBD, though such candidates would then be considered on general merit for that specific vacancy.

Important Dates

Application Status: Opening Soon

  • Online Application Start Date: 22 August 2026
  • Last Date to Apply: 11 September 2026, 6:00 PM (1800 hrs)
  • Recruitment Test (RT) Date: 20 December 2026
  • Interview Date: To be intimated separately to shortlisted candidates

UPSC has specified that the date for determining eligibility of all candidates, in every respect including age, is the closing date for submission of the online application — 11 September 2026. Candidates are advised to apply well in advance rather than waiting for the closing date, since Recruitment Test centre allotment is on a first-apply-first-allot basis, and centres reach capacity.

Age Limit

CategoryMaximum Age
UR / EWS35 years
OBC38 years
SC / ST40 years

Age is calculated as on the closing date of the application, 11 September 2026. Additional relaxation applies on top of the above:

  • Up to 10 years of relaxation for PwBD candidates (subject to a maximum age of 56 years), applicable whether or not the specific post is reserved for PwBD, provided it is identified as suitable for the relevant disability category.
  • Up to 5 years of relaxation for Central/UT Government employees with at least 3 years of continuous service in an allied cadre.
  • Up to 5 years of relaxation for existing EPFO employees.
  • Up to 5 years of relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers (including ECOs/SSCOs) with a minimum of 6 months of continuous service after attestation.

These relaxations are cumulative with category-based relaxation in several cases — for example, an SC/ST candidate who is also a Central Government employee could be eligible for up to 10 years of total age relaxation. Candidates should refer to the “Concessions & Relaxations” section of the official notification for the exact combination applicable to their case.

Educational Qualification

Essential

A Degree of a recognised University, or an equivalent qualification.

Desirable

A Diploma in Company Law, Labour Laws, or Public Administration.

UPSC has noted that essential qualifications may be relaxed at the Commission’s discretion for otherwise well-qualified candidates, and that experience-related qualifications may similarly be relaxed for SC/ST candidates if sufficient eligible candidates from these categories aren’t available. Candidates claiming an equivalent qualification (rather than the exact degree specified) must be able to produce an official order or letter naming the authority under which their qualification has been treated as equivalent — without this, the application is liable to be rejected.

Citizenship

A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of settling permanently in India. Candidates in the last three categories require a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Pay Scale

The APFC post carries pay at Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. The post is permanent, classified as Group A (Non-Ministerial) — equivalent to Group A of the Central Government at the corresponding pay level — with a probation period of 1 year. The post carries All India Service liability, meaning officers may be posted anywhere in India, with headquarters at New Delhi. National Pension System (NPS) rules apply, effective from 1 January 2004.

Duties

An Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner handles a mix of statutory and administrative functions, including:

  • Enforcement, Recovery, Accounts, Administration, Cash, Legal, Pension, and Computer-related work.
  • Conducting inquiries and settlement of claims.
  • General administration, including maintenance of the Cash Book and reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Preparing MIS (Management Information System) returns and related reporting.

Application Fee

CategoryFee
General / OBC / EWS (Male)₹25
Women (all categories)Exempted
SC / ST / PwBDExempted

Fee must be paid online via Visa/Master/RuPay Credit or Debit Card, UPI, or internet banking, before the closing date. Applications submitted without the prescribed fee (where applicable) will be summarily rejected, with no scope for representation against the rejection. Fees once paid are non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other examination.

Selection Process

Selection is through a Recruitment Test (RT) followed by an interview.

Recruitment Test (RT) — Scheme

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Question Type: Objective, multiple choice, with all questions carrying equal marks
  • Medium: English and Hindi
  • Negative Marking: One-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer. No penalty for questions left unanswered.
  • Total Marks: 300 for the RT, 100 for the interview, weighted in a 75:25 ratio between RT and interview respectively.

Recruitment Test — Syllabus

  • General English
  • Indian Culture, Heritage, and Freedom Movements
  • Developmental Issues and Present Trends in the Indian Economy
  • Governance and the Constitution of India
  • General Science and Basic Knowledge of Computer Applications
  • Elementary Mathematics, Statistics, and General Mental Ability
  • Industrial Relations, Labour Codes, and Social Security in India
  • Principles of Accountancy, Auditing, and Insurance
  • Current Events of National and International Importance

Minimum Level of Suitability (Interview)

CategoryMinimum Marks (out of 100)
General / EWS50
OBC45
SC / ST / PwBD40

Where selection involves both an RT and an interview, candidates must clear the minimum suitability level for their category at both stages. The RT is scheduled for 20 December 2026 across 84 centres nationwide, including major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. Centre allotment is on a first-apply-first-allot basis with a capacity ceiling at most centres, so candidates are advised to apply early to secure their preferred centre.

Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee a call for interview — where the number of applications is large, UPSC may apply shortlisting criteria based on desirable qualifications, higher educational qualification, or relevant experience beyond the minimum prescribed.

Documents Required

Candidates must upload the following in support of claims made in the application (as separate PDFs against each claim):

  • Matriculation/10th standard certificate or equivalent, showing date of birth
  • Degree/diploma certificate as proof of educational qualification (provisional certificate with mark sheets if the final degree isn’t yet issued)
  • Order/letter establishing equivalence, if claiming an equivalent qualification
  • Experience certificate(s) in the prescribed format, where applicable
  • Caste certificate in the prescribed proforma, for SC/ST/OBC candidates
  • OBC non-creamy-layer declaration, for OBC candidates
  • Disability certificate in the prescribed proforma, for PwBD candidates
  • Age relaxation certificates, where applicable (Ex-servicemen, Government employees, etc.)

Documents such as pay slips, resumes, appointment letters, relieving letters, or unsigned experience certificates should not be uploaded in the document module. Candidates are strongly advised to use their Aadhaar card as their primary ID document for verification.
